General Notes: Husband - Charles F. Shirey
He was born on the old family farm which was later the possession of his son, Charles M. Shirey. He passed his entire life on this farm, which for many years he operated, and at the same time carried on a carding and fulling business in a mill which he owned on Nine Mile creek. This creek passed through his property and afforded ample water power for his operation. He was very successful in his business and also in his farming operations, and was well known as an authority on various agricultural subjects in the neighborhood. His farm was an unusually fertile one, consisting almost entirely of bottom land. He was also prominent in the local affairs of the community and held a number of public offices at various times, among which could be mentioned that of assessor and tax collector for the township. He was a Democrat in politics, and was very active in the Lutheran church. Toward the latter part of his life he made his home in another house, erected by him on the farm.
