"When we came to Canton [Ohio?] in 1936 we didn't have two nickels to our name. A minister, whose wife had just died, said 'You don't know me, and I don't know you, but if you would come and live with me, I would make a home for you.' Here we were with a 2 month old baby and a 2 year old child, moving in to one bedroom, all four of us. The kids slept on chairs."
