He was in his third year when he was brought across the seas by his parents to Canada. He there obtained a good education, remaining at the home farm until he was twenty years of age. He then entered business life at Guelph, Canada, which was always his home, although he was engaged in the sewing machine business in Cleveland, Ohio, for a few years. He was later general manager of the Raymond Sewing Machine Company at Guelph.
