He and his wife were natives of Ireland. In that country they were married, and two children were born to them prior to their emigration to America in 1818. After a short residence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, they went to Lycoming County, where he successfully followed farming. Both he and his wife were lifelong members of the Presbyterian Church.
