He was educated in the Oak Grove school and during his entire active career was identified with farming operations. He was the owner of the old parental homestead, comprising two hundred and twenty-five acres, and there was engaged in diversified agricul­ture and the raising of high-grade stock. In his political convictions he was an uncompromis­ing supporter of the Democratic party and he was school director and auditor.
