There seems to be some confusion between this man and his father:

On his arrival in America he first located in German town (now a part of Philadelphia). He served in the Revolutionary war, and after the close of the war removed to near Winchester, Virginia. Subsequently he came to Washington township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and located on Beaver Run, where his wife's brother, William Ridenour, had settled a short time previous. His father came to America from Germany, in company with one of his brothers, and first settled at Germantown, near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They separated, and the family never afterward succeeded in locating the brother mentioned. The father married in Philadelphia, and after living there some years went to the Colony of Virginia, where he died. [HAC 1914, 421]

He was born at Germantown, Pennsylvania, and went with his father to Virginia. He was a stonemason by trade. During the Revolutionary War he served as a soldier in the Colonial forces, was with Washington at Yorktown, and in his later years received a pension for his services.
He was married in Virginia, and in 1806 removed to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, among the pioneers of that region, settling in the woods three miles from Delmont. There he cleared a tract of land and continued to make his home for eighteen years; his place was later known as the Branthouver farm. His family consisted of five sons and two daughters, all born in Virginia. [HAC 1914, 421]
