General Notes: Husband - Thomas M. Ross
He was reared on the farm in Richhill Township, Greene County, Pennsyvania, where he attended the district schools and made farming his main occupation. In 1875 he sold his farm and engaged in the business of huckstering until 1881, when he was elected commissioner of Greene County. In 1884 he bought a farm of 155 acres. He also served three years as director of the poor. He belonged to the Masonic fraternity and the I. O. O. F., and took an active interest in the Grange movement. He and his wife belonged to the Bates' Fork Baptist Church.
