He was educated in Fort Palmer School and at the Independent Academy and Duff's Business College, Pittsburgh. He was for a time salesman for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, with an office in Albany, New York; later assistant manager of department of factory of that company, Akron, Ohio.
