General Notes: Husband - Capt. George E. Smith
For two years he was a clerk in a forwarding and commission house in Philadelphia. From 1840 to 1843 he carried on a tannery in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. In 1865 and '66, he represented Indiana County in the state House of Representatives. He served seven years in the U. S. revenue department, four as assistant assessor, and three as deputy collector and surveyor. In later years, he was in the insurance business at Indiana, Pennsylvania, locating in the latter town in 1868. His first residence in Indiana County commenced at Blairsville in 1835.
