He received his education in local subscription schools. He assisted his father on the farm and when the estate was divided received as his share one hundred acres.
He was a Republican, and a member of Hoffman's Lutheran church, his wife being associated with the Reformed communion. A few years before his death he retired from the farm, passing away when a comparatively young man.
