He was the first of the Vandyke name to locate in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, coming there from Westmoreland County in the early part of the nineteenth century. He was then unmarried. Set­tling at McVill, he obtained land from the government and became a farmer, being en­gaged as such until his death.
