General Notes: Husband - Peter Eicher Sheppard

He was educated in the local public schools and at Ohio Northern University. After graduating from the University he taught school until 1887, when he became clerk and assistant storekeeper for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Company until 1889. He was then engaged to index the court records of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, in which occupation he continued until 1900. His next post was a clerkship in the office of the prothonotary of that county, from which he was advanced to the office itself, which he held for two terms, until 1909. On October 1, 1908, he had been elected treasurer and trust officer of the Fayette Title and Trust Company. After 1910 he was an official of this company, first as vice-president and treasurer, and beginning January 1, 1921, as president.
The Fayette Title and Trust Company of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, was founded in 1899, the first organization meeting being held on November 28th, when the Hon. William H. Playford was elected president, John M. Core, secretary, and constructive plans were made. The charter was granted later. At the meeting held February 22, 1901, the by-laws were adopted. About June 1, 1901, the bank was opened for business and enjoyed immediate and continuous success. When the previous president died, July 10, 1920, Peter E. Sheppard, who had been vice-president, became president of the institution.
Although Mr. Sheppard's main concern was the bank, he was also president of the Union Rubber Company, of which he was an organizer, and of which he was a director beginning from its inception. He was president of the Ainsley Coal Company, a director of the Oliphant Coal and Coke Company, of the United Refining Company, of the Connellsville Foundry Machine and Steel Casting Company, and of the Nicholson Coal and Coke Company. Few men in the country were so closely allied with such a number of important companies, whose interests are far-reaching and vital.
Mr. Sheppard held membership in the following secret societies: Fayette Lodge, No. 228, Free and Accepted Masons, in which he was Worshipful Master; Valley of Uniontown Lodge of Perfection; Valley of Pittsburgh Consistory; Union Chapter, No. 165, Royal Arch Masons, in which he was High Priest; Olivet Council, No. 13, Greensburg, Pennsylvania; Uniontown Commandery, No. 49, Knights Templar; trustee of Syria Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Pittsburgh; William McKinley Lodge, No. 136, Independent Order of Odd Follows, Connellsville, Pennsylvania. His clubs were the Laurel and the Uniontown Country, and he was a member of the Pennsylvania Society of New York City. He and his wife were communicants of the Presbyterian Church.
