He enlisted for service in the Civil War with his brother David, both in the Erie Regiment, and in Co. D of the 83d Regiment. At the second battle of Bull Run, Aug. 30, 1862, he was wounded and left on the field, where, it is believed, he died, as no later information could be obtained regarding him.
