He was associated with his father in the Porter Foundry and Machine business of which company he became manager at his father's death and continued in that position until 1904, when he and his two brothers, James and Edwin Porter, removed to Seattle, Washington, where he became associated with the Puget Sound Light and Power Company of that place.
