General Notes: Husband - Benjamin G. Swick

He was educated in the common and high schools in his native township. Later he learned the trade of machinist and followed it for about four years. At the end of this period, feeling dissatisfied with the calling he had chosen, he went to Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, in 1900, and worked as a salesman for the Majestic Range Company for fourteen years. In 1915 he went into the real estate and insurance business, with offices on Seventh Street, in Ellwood City, and developed a flourishing enterprise, dealing in every thing pertaining to real estate and in all kinds of insurance, with the exception of life insurance. With prosperity there came prominence, and Mr. Swick, always active in civic and political circles of the city, was named justice of the peace of Ellwood City. In 1921 he was elected burgess and he achieved an impeccable reputation as Ellwood City's chief executive. Mr. Swick was affiliated with the Republican Party, and with the Republican organizations of Ellwood City and Lawrence County, and he took a prominent part in campaigns. During the First World War he was active in home war work, especially in behalf of the American Red Cross. He was a member of the Ellwood City Lodge, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; the Ellwood City Aerie, Fraternal Order of Eagles; the Knights of Pythias; the Ellwood City Lodge and the Encampment of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows; the Ellwood City Lodge, Loyal Order of Moose, of which lodge he was Past Dictator; the Ellwood City Kiwanis Club; the Chamber of Commerce, of Ellwood City, of which he was one of the organizers; and the Ellwood City Real Estate Board, of which he was at one time president. He and his wife and family attended the Reformed Church in Ellwood City.
