General Notes: Husband - James Simpson

The early ancestors of the Simpson family of western Pennsylvania were members of the strictest sect of the old historic covenanters.

He was of Scottish extraction, but came to the United States from the North of Ireland, in 1775. He first located in the Path valley, in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, later moving to Westmoreland County, where he continued to make his home until 1785-86. Then he crossed the Conemaugh river, locating in what is now Cherryhill township, Indiana County, in which section he was among the first settlers. By occupation he was a farmer.
