He was born May 8, 1832. [BF, 290]

He followed farming in South Huntingdon township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, having located there when but eighteen years of age. He owned a good farm, was connected with the United Presbyterian church, in which he was an elder, and was in politics a republican. He was one of the directors of the Sewickley Mutual Fire In-surance Company, which was chartered in 1882.
