One of the oldest homesteads of Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, is that of the Pifer family in Henderson township. It comprised 200 acres, and was purchased in 1828 by John Pifer, who came from Westmoreland County, to make his home in the wilderness, and passed his remaining years there living in a log cabin in true pioneer style.
