General Notes: Husband - Judge David Phipps
He was one of the most progressive men of his day, especially active in business operations. He erected one of the first furnaces in Venango County, PA, located in Clinton Township, built the first woolen mills and sawmills at Kennerdell, and carried on the manufacture of woolen goods and lumber to meet the demands in the surrounding territory. In politics he was a Democrat and a leading member of his party, at one time its nominee for Congress and in 1854 elected associate judge, serving as such at the time of his death. [CAB, 849]
