She was educated at California State Normal and Pennsylvania Business College, and became principal of the shorthand department in the Peterson Business College of Scottdale, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

She aided considerably in the establishment and development of the Peterson Business College, and was her brother's co-worker from the very founding of the institution. Like her brother, she was given excellent educational opportunities and after attending the public schools of Unity township, entered the California State Normal School, from which she was graduated with the class of 1901. She next attended the Pennsylvania Business College at Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she prepared for an advanced course. Miss Peterson next entered the Zanerian College of Columbus, Ohio, and after her graduation was associated with the Peterson Business College, directing the greater part of her time and attention to its affairs. She was an able scholar and teacher, a woman of broad culture and education, and eminently well-fitted for the position which she occupied. In addition to this she was a business woman of no mean order, and assisted her brother in the management of the business affairs of the college.
