General Notes: Husband - Dr. David Richie Shepler
He was reared at home and acquired his education in the common schools of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and in Mount Union College, Mount Union, Ohio. In the fall of 1899 he entered the medical department of the University of Baltimore, graduating therefrom with honors, being president of his class; this was in the spring of 1903. After graduation he passed the State Medical Board, of Pennsylvania, and after a short period of relief work for some prominent physicians of Westmoreland County, settled in West Newton, Pennsylvania, where he built up an enviable practice. In addition to his large private clientele, Dr. Shepler for the past seven years has been surgeon and physician to the hospital maintained by the Y. and O. Coal Company. He is a member of the County and State Medical societies. He was a Democrat in politics, and served two terms in Borough Council. He was a member of Blythe Lodge, No. 593, Free and Accepted Masons, of West Newton, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He was a member of the Phi Chi (College) Fraternity. He held membership in the Presbyterian church.
