General Notes: Husband - John Weir

He grew to manhood in his native land, served in the Irish Rebellion of 1798, and in 1800 immigrated to Wilmington, Delaware, where he worked in a powder factory for fourteen years. Soon after his marriage he enlisted in the War of 1812, and served in that struggle against England. In 1818 he came to Butler County, Pennsylvania, and purchased 256 acres of land in Buffalo township, known as "Disappoint-ment," and the following year, with his wife and five children, he settled on his farm. His wife's parents came with them and settled in Winfield township. He served as captain of militia until he was sixty years of age, took a deep interest in churches and schools, and was one of the first school directors in his township.
