He was a black-smith by trade, making a specialty of that branch of the business known as horseshoeing. He was a public-spirited citizen, giving evidence of being such by serving as a member of Hose Company No. 2, Greensburg Fire Department, and officiating as treasurer of the company. He also belonged to the Grand Fraternity, of which he was treasurer, and the Woodmen of the World. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
