General Notes: Husband - Robert Robinson, Sr.

He was born in county Antrim, (Mahara,) Ireland. He and his wife, with his father and mother, two brothers, two sisters and brothers-in-law, emigrated to America, landed at Philadelphia, in July, 1770, and in a short time moved to Marietta, (first daughter born,) later, going up to Harrisburg with all his family. Here it is positively asserted by eastern friends that his father's body rests in Lancaster graveyard, and that his mother sleeps in Derry grave yard, now in Dauphin county. He was one of the masons who built the John Harris "House," Harrisburg, which still [1880] overlooks the Susquehanna river, (now Cameron House.) In a short time, he with the balance of his family, moved up to Franklin county, to Conococheage (Conikagig) creek, where he helped to build a mill (now a tub factory). Here several children were born. Some time from 1777 to 1778, he, with his family moved west of the mountains to "Big Sewickly," Westmoreland county. [HIC 1880, 433]

Soon after 1780 they, with their three sons and two daughters, moved from Sewickley to the north side of the Kiskiminetas river, in Armstrong township, Westmoreland County [Armstrong County?], near the mouth of Lick Run, on lands called 'York,' in the midst of numerous Indians. In a short time they made their way north one mile (no roads), put up a building twenty-four by twenty-eight feet, two stories high, and used it as a stockade. No windows or doors were there for a time. The second log from the puncheon floor had four feet of it cut out for an entrance. The building was still standing nearly one hundred years after. It was situated on part of the 'York' lands. The aged parents lived there till 1820, when they went to their son John's on a visit, half a mile north, on the 'Iconium' lands.

Soon after 1780 Robert Robinson, Sr., with his family, moved from Big Sewickly on pack horses, crossing the Kiskeminetas in a canoe and floating their horses through the river, and settled on a tract of land, the warrant of which is dated February 25th, 1780. The tract named was called "York," and it contained 210½ acres. The consideration was the sum of three pounds and eight shillings lawful money. The land was situated on the north side of the said Kiskeminetas river, at the mouth of Lick or Robinson run, bounded by the lands of James Montgomery, Alexander Stewart, by vacant lands, thence by lands of Richard Wallace and by lands of Henry Horn. [HIC 1880, 434]

He and his wife had eight children. [HIC 1913, 744]
