General Notes: Husband - Robert Shaw

He was a tanner by trade, but abandoned this line of industry in favor of farming and oil production. He was the owner of a fine farm near Oil City, Venango County, Pennsylvania.

He was a Whig and took an active interest in the Underground railway in the transportation of colored fugitives to Canada. He cleared up a farm which afterward was familiarly known as the Shaw farm—noted for its great oil production.
