He attended the public schools of Franklin, Pennsylvania, entered Worcester Academy, Worcester, Mas-sachusetts, graduating in the class of 1928, and afterwards entered Princeton University from which he graduated in the class of 1934. He later resided in East Orange, New Jersey, and was associated with the Sylvania Industrial Corporation as patent attorney, having been admitted in the Patent Office Department of the United States, as a patent attorney.
