General Notes: Husband - Peter Oesterling
He was reared on the family homestead, where his parents settled in 1836. He received a limited education in the common schools, and always followed farming as a vocation. During the Rebellion he was drafted twice. The first time he sent a substitute, but the next time he went into the army as a member of Company B, One Hundred and Seventh Pennsylvania Volunteers. He participated in the battles of Hatcher's Run, and Weldon Railroad, and after nine months' service was honorably discharged, in June, 1865.
He and his family were connected with the German Lutheran church of Butler. He was a stanch Democrat.
