General Notes: Husband - Capt. Stephen Barnes

He was born on the farm on the Connecticut river. He served three months in the provincial militia at the first outbreak of the war with England; then three years as a volunteer, after which he came home and recruited a company and remained at its head until the close of the Revolutionary War. In 1787, he left Connecticut and settled in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, where he engaged in lumbering and farming.

At one time no less than four of his grandsons were members of the Pennsylvania legislature at the same session.
