General Notes: Husband - John Obley


Born in the Kingdom of Wurtemberg, Empire of Germany, he immigrated to America in the autumn of 1840 and settled in West Newton, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where he engaged in tailoring. He continued until 1861 when the civil war began. He then volunteered his services for the suppression of the Rebellion and entered Co. F, 12th Pa. reserves and served until February, 1863, when he was mustered out of the service. He took part in the battle of Second Bull Run where he was taken prisoner and carried to Haymarket.
Mr. Obley was a republican and served as member of the borough council. By diligence and frugality he accumulated considerable property in West Newton.
