He was born in Ohio, four miles west of Ravenna, where his early life was spent and where he enlisted for service in the Civil war. At the close of his military duties he located at Meadville, PA, taking a position as stationary engineer with the Erie Railroad Company which he held until 1889, when he removed to Oil City and found similar employment with the National Transit Company until his death, at the age of sixty years.
