He secured his education in the public schools of Venango County, Pennsylvania, and also attended Fredonia Institute in Mercer County. He entered the employ of the Goodyear Rubber Company at an early age, and spent several years in Akron, Ohio, later with the International Truck Company in that city. He came to Butler, Pennsylvania, in 1920 and engaged in the real estate and auction business. His association with Mr. Rodgers was formed in 1926 and they had offices in the Boyd Building at 102 East Diamond Street. The firm specialized in suburban property and farms.
Mr. Sparks was a Democrat, a member of the Presbyterian Church, and was active in the affairs of the community.
