He attended school at Shawville, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, and entered upon his medical studies at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Baltimore, Maryland. Later he attended the Medico-Chirurgical College of Philadelphia. In the spring of 1890 he began practice at Glen Hope, Clearfield County, and in the following spring came to Houtzdale. In addition to attending to a large practice Dr. Wood established a drug store on February 4, 1895.
He was a Republican in politics.

She was born at Chest Springs, Pennsylvania, and was a baby when the family moved to Grinnell, Iowa, accompanying them on their return in 1889.
