He was a native of Londonderry, Ireland. His wife came from the same county and parish. [HWC 1882, 948]
He was born in County Antrim, Ireland. [TCHWWC, 728]
His youth was passed in his native land, where he was educated, becoming specially expert as a mathematician. In 1816 he came with his parents to America.
He purchased a farm near what was then known as the Seceder Church, near Pigeon Creek, in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and lived there until his death, from dysentery, when aged 41 years.
