General Notes: Husband - Mark Watson

He and his wife were both natives of England. They immigrated to South Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1830, where he engaged in manufacturing brick for seven years. They then removed to Fayette County, and purchased a large body of land. Two years later he sold out, returned to Allegheny County, and, coming to what is now Coraopolis, purchased 141 acres now included in the borough. He was the first resident Methodist, and did everything in his power to encourage the building up of a congregation there; he gave the land on which the church was built, and was one of the principal contributors toward its erection.
He and his wife had a family of eight children, six of whom grew to adulthood. [HAC 1889 ii, 764]

He was born in England, and about 1830 emigrated to the United States, settling near Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he worked as a surveyor or civil engineer, also owning a small brickyard. He removed, after a short time, to Ripley, Ohio, subsequently returning to Pennsylvania and settling at Coraopolis, where he owned about one hundred and fifty acres which came to be situated in the centre of the town. This land he cultivated as a farm, building a house which was later situated at 1024 State avenue. It was his home during the remainder of his life. He and his wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal church. [GPHWP, 904]
