He went from Iowa as a soldier of the Civil war, reached the grade of colonel of the First Regiment, and was killed at the battle of Pine Ridge, in 1863. [HMC 1909, 1100. There seems to be some confusion among the generations here. HMC 1909, 1038 makes this statement about Joseph, a son of his brother Barzilla.]
