The source in a couple of places refers to him as a son of Col. Samuel Nelson and his wife Mary McMullin. However, in speaking of the family of Col. Samuel Nelson, it is stated that he had nine children and a son Samuel is not listed. The source contains extensive information about the other children, but almost nothing about this Samuel.
