General Notes: Husband - William Parshall
He was born and raised in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and attended school until he was eighteen. He wished to prepare himself for one of the learned professions, and so became a student in Westminster College; in 1872 at the end of four years he completed the scientific course. Having been enrolled as a student in the office of Griffith & Mason for a year previous to his graduation, he now put himself wholly under their direction, and after one year's work in reading law was admitted to the bar of Pennsylvania in the spring term of court. He opened an office for himself in Mercer, where he stayed until 1879, when he left for David City, Butler County, Nebraska, where he practiced two years, and then returned to his native State. He selected Wampum as a suitable location, and in 1890, he was elected justice of the peace, and was elected for an additional term of five years in 1895. In addition to his legal work, Mr. Parshall was the agent of several of the oldest and strongest insurance companies in the field. He was a Republican, and was chief burgess of Wampum for seven years. He was at one time an Odd Fellow, and later a member of Wampum Council, No. 226, Junior Order of United American Mechanics.
He was permitted to attend school until he was nineteen years of age, having early shown unusual quickness of intellect, and then went to Mercer, Pennsylvania, where he read law for two years with the firm of Griffiths & Mason, and was admitted to the bar in 1873. He practiced his profession for six years at Mercer and then moved to Nebraska. After practicing law there for two years he returned to Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, and in 1881 he was appointed burgess of Wampum, to which office he was regularly elected in the following spring, and he served continuously for seven years. Other offices were tendered him and he accepted that of justice of the peace, for which his previous training had qualified him, and served at least three terms as such. He was an active Republican.
