General Notes: Husband - Gilbert Barnes

When he was but a child of two or three years of age, his father removed from Massachusetts and settled on the land where New Haven is built. His youthful years were spent upon his father's farm, but when he attained his majority he engaged in merchandising, in which he was very successful, until the loss of a vessel and its cargo at sea compelled him to resume his early occupation, that of farming. He raised a family of seven sons and three daughters. He at all times took an active part in the struggles of the colony of Connecticut against the usurpations of the vassals of the mother country.
