In Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, the record of the Neelys extends to John Neely, born at the head-waters of Big Sewickley Creek, where he passed his entire life and died at an advanced age, long life being a trait inherited from his forefathers, all of whom attained ripe years. John Neely's occupation was that of farmer, and he was a man of considerable influence in the locality, holding the office of justice of the peace and being a general of militia. He served in the latter capacity for several years, and in the course of that time led his troops in quelling disturbances of any magnitude in the district.
