The family came to Mercer County, Pennsylvania, in 1831, settling one year near Blacktown, and then moving to an old school-house which stood on the farm where James McConnell resided. From there they moved to a farm where their son Reuben would later reside; they settled in an old log cabin, which stood for fifty years, and was then made into wood and used to burn the brick out of which an elegant residence was built there in 1884.
