General Notes: Husband - Matthew W. Shannon, Jr.

He obtained his public school education in Connoquenessing Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and after leaving school was continuously engaged as a farmer on his property. He had almost the whole of his estate of 100 acres under cultivation, raising, corn, oats, wheat, hay, buckwheat and potatoes, the latter crop being especially abundant, Mr. Shannon having grown 1,000 bushels in some years. He was a man of very practical ideas and he proved their value when he has applied them to his agricultural operations.
His family were members of the Mt. Chestnut United Presbyterian Church, in which Mr. Shannon was an elder and clerk of the Session, and served as a trustee. He took an active interest in Sunday-school work and for a long time officiated as superintendent.
Mr. Shannon was identified with the Republican party but, irrespective of party ties, he has worked for the good of the township in the way of public improve-ments and the securing of excellent school facilities. He served as school director and as secretary of the School Board, and he was also township supervisor and assessor.
