General Notes: Husband - Philip Musser

He was a boy of twelve when his parents settled at the homestead in Centre County, Pennsylvania. As a pioneer farmer's son, his educational advantages were limited, and what instruction he had was given in German. He was a well-built man, weighing from 180 to 185 pounds, and was an active and successful business man, conducting his farm, and also a sawmill, which was built by his father, and was still run by water power almost to the beginning of the 20th Century. He always took a prominent part in religious movements as a member of the Lutheran Church, in which he held various offices, and he was also interested in politics first as a Whig, and later as a Republican. Although firm in his convictions, he was never aggressive in proclaiming them, being a man of few words.
