General Notes: Husband - Allen D. Russell
He received an excellent education in the schools of his native town, and for a time worked at the tinner's trade, but at the age of twenty-two he went to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to take a position as overseer of a pipe line gang for the Standard Oil Company. This post he held for a year, and in 1885 he was promoted to the position of engineer of the Standard Oil Company's pumping works at Pine Station, where he spent seven years, being always at hand to perform his duties.
His family was identified with the Presbyterian Church for generations past, and he adhered to the same church. He took an active part in local politics as a member of the Republican organization.
