Before this family left Maryland, he made a preliminary visit to the neighborhood of Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. He was murdered, it was supposed, for his money. His traveling companion charged his death to the Indians, while the settlers, although not entertaining a very high opinion of the red men, seemed inclined to exonerate them from the charge.
