General Notes: Husband - John H. Murdoch, Jr.
Reared in Washington, Pennsylvania, he was graduated (A. B.) from Washington and Jefferson College in 1909, his studies there having been carried on with particular reference to the continued study of law which, under the able preceptorship of his father, he had begun when but a boy. In 1913, after his admission to the bar, he was appointed by Dr. W. H. Temple, then serving his district as representative in congress, to be the latter's private secretary, and in that capacity he spent two years in Washington, D. C. Upon his return from the national capital he resumed his law practice in his father's office in Washington in association with his father and his elder brother, Edgar B. Murdoch, with offices at No. 86 North Main street. This firm carried on as John H. Murdoch & Sons until the death of the elder Murdoch in the summer of 1925, after which time the law firm carried on as Murdoch Brothers. He was an active participant in local political affairs and rendered service as assistant district attorney in and for his county. He also served as secretary of the Citizens Water Company, of which concern his father had previously been the president.
He and his wife were members of the First United Presbyterian church and he was the superintendent of the Sunday school of that congregation. He also was a member of the locally influential Kiwanis Club, and of the Bassett Club.
