He immigrated to America and to Washington County, Pennsylvania, settling in Hanover township in early times; he was driven out by Indians only to return in later years, and passed his remaining days on the farm.

An Irish immigrant, he came to Maryland in 1765 and to Washington County, Pennsylvania, in 1778.
