General Notes: Husband - John Crawford Porter

His first business venture was with the Dry Goods House of Brown and Martin of Pittsburgh, North Side, which he soon left to enter the banking business in Pittsburgh. He was cashier of the Farmers and Merchants Bank and secretary and treasurer of the Allegheny Gas Company. In 1862 he entered the iron and steel business with McKnight, Duncan and Company, which later became McKnight, Porter and Company. In 1880 he became associated with the Spang Steel and Iron Company, of which concern he was secretary and treasurer. Mr. Porter was a member of the Duquesne Club and one of the founders of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and a charter member of the Fourth United Presbyterian Church of Allegheny City.
