General Notes: Husband - Judge Henry Barnhart
He was born at a place known as the "Trappe," in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, about thirty miles from Philadelphia. His parents removed with him to Lycoming County, and settled at an early period, about 1788, near Jersey Shore, where he spent the boyhood years of his life.
He lived there until 1806, when the family emigrated into the Bald Eagle valley, and settled upon lands near his late residence.
He was quite prominent and influential in public affairs; in 1832 was elected a member of the Legislature from Centre County, Pennsylvania, serving two terms, and was also associate judge for ten years. He was a stanch supporter of Democratic principles, and during the War of 1812 was commissioned a colonel in the militia. He was an extensive lumber merchant, one of the leading business men of the county, and a public-spirited citizen. Although not a member of any religious organization, he regularly attended the services of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
He and his wife had twelve children; besides those listed, five died in infancy.
