General Notes: Husband - Henry Owens
He was reared to agricultural pursuits, while his literary training was obtained in the country schools of the neighborhood. He worked for three years for others, but always made his home on the farm where he was born, buying it after his marriage from a brother-in-law, who was then the owner. Of the 196 acres, 100 were placed under the plow and improved with good buildings. The land was underlaid with a fine quality of mineral products, including coal and fire clay.
He and his wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. At one time Mr. Owens was a Democrat in politics; but later he identified with the Prohibition party, and although he did aspire to official distinction he creditably filled a number of local positions.
