General Notes: Husband - John Thome McNary

He was educated in the public schools of Chartiers Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and Duff's Business College, at Pittsburgh. After completing his college course, in 1898, he accepted a position in a furniture store. In the fall of 1900 he became bookkeeper for the Citizens' Bank, Limited, at Canonsburg, and after the business was reorganized as the Citizens' Trust Company, he became teller. In the early part of 1907 he was made assistant secretary and treasurer of this financial institution, of which he became secretary and treasurer on July 1, 1909. Mr. McNary became a resident of Canonsburg in 1892 and for nine years or more was identified with the Citizens' Bank. He had control over numerous business interests and was treasurer of the Oak Springs Cemetery Company and also was treasurer of the Murray Hill Improvement Company, of Canonsburg. He also served in the office of borough treasurer. He was figuratively cradled in Republicanism and was a firm supporter of its policies. For many years he was a member of the Chartiers United Presbyterian Church at Canonsburg.

Reared in Canonsburg, he attended the schools of that city and supplemented this by a course in Duff's Business College, in Pittsburgh. In 1900, when twenty years of age, he entered his father's bank in Canonsburg, starting in as a messenger, and was thereafter connected with the operations of that financial institution, for years a member of the board of directors and from 1924 its vice president. Mr. McNary also was a member of the board of directors of the Chartiers Building and Loan Association and treasurer of the Oak Spring Cemetery Association. He was a republican, and served as treasurer of the Canonsburg borough. During the time of this country's participation in the first World War he took an active and influential part in the promotion of the Liberty Loan sales in Washington County and in other forms of local war and relief work. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Chartiers United Presbyterian church, and was a thirty-second degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Noble of the Mystic Shrine. He was also a member of the Washington Country Club.
